AXON APARTMENTS
Our first 'in-house' development recycles an existing six unit aged care facility. We set out to create an alternative to the dark and narrow terrace type house by reconfiguring the 1950's building into
four autonomous apartments. Elemental face brick panels are dislocated and highlight a rhythm in the building facade. Masonry, metal cladding and patterned glass provide a tactile and visual dialogue, an essential
component of our design philosophy. The sensitive commercial recycling of multiple residential buildings is a true indication of effective, sustainable construction. The original building continues to exert its influence, imposing on structure and material selection. With attention to proportion, detail and finish, the assembly of the ordinary creates the extraordinary. Simplified detailing and finishes recall the buildings past.
