BIRD HOUSE
The challenge of this project evolved around achieving exceptional views - available at three storeys in height abutting the street boundary. Our client's direction was to harness the qualities of the coast to the west, and the open space of school playing fields to the north. The existing single story home was kept intact, with living spaces converted to a library/theatre and an additional level for master bedroom, retreat and viewing terrace. The robust design takes reference from the pitched roof of the existing house, introducing Asian themes to the new roofline and resort qualities to outdoor living spaces, water features and gardens. A demonstration of what can be achieved through a simple contemporary second level addition, extracting ocean views and a significant 'value add' outcome for the client.
