T HOUSE, BUSSELTON
The sacred winegrowing region of South Western Australia is confronted by uncontrolled subdivision and development with an associated disregard for considered architectural input. This beachfront family home, overlooking Geographe Bay, welcomes the opportunity to inspire a rapidly growing community and challenge the concept of 'country living'. The analogy of a 'shelter' was often used to capture the spirit of this project. The uninterrupted vistas and character of the environment can be enjoyed from a number of locations within the home, each with their own independent characteristics and flexibility able to be altered through sliding screens, doors and windows. Prominent in the landscape, the suspended geometric volume expresses itself from the inside; a single open primary living space, transparent and flooded with natural light with the flexibility to extend and embrace the outdoors. A series of circular coloured glazed openings dominate the entry sequence - our architectural interpretation of the Olympic rings and a nod to the torch-bearing client.
